Boy, 16, Shot and Killed on Front Porch

(CHICAGO) -- A 16-year-old boy is dead after being shot in the head on his front porch over the weekend.

The shooting reportedly happened on Saturday evening on the 6100 block of South Rockwell Street. Police said Joseph Briggs was standing on the front porch of his home when someone in a grey vehicle opened fire, and he was hit. Briggs was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

Authorities said at least eight people were killed and 40 others injured in weekend violence in the Chicago area, reports ABC's Chicago station WLS-TV.
