DNA to Clear Record of Man Who Spent 20 Years Behind Bars

(CHICAGO) -- A man who spent 20 years behind bars for a crime he did not commit will finally have his record cleared, ABC affiliate WLS reports.

Bennie Starks was convicted in 1986 for the rape and beating of a 69-year-old woman. He was released on bond in 2006 after newly discovered DNA evidence excluded him from the crime, as prosecutors considered retrying him.

A judge in Lake County is expected to dismiss the rape charges against him.
