National Guard Called to Help Illinois Through Blizzard
(CHICAGO) -- The National Guard was activated in Illinois Tuesday to assist stranded drivers on various highways throughout the state.
The arrival of 500 troops comes as a result of Governor Pat Quinn's decision to seek additional help with today's blizzard.
They will be located at rest areas along interstate highways with water, food and safety tips for drivers. The guards will also report on the state of the driving conditions and stay in touch with local police as needed.
