Fatal Accident Closes Part of Highway 50

(PUEBLO, Colo.) -- A fatal traffic accident closed Highway 50 just east of Pueblo at Baxter Road, ABC News Colorado Springs affiliate KRDO-TV reports.

The driver of a white Mazda sedan was traveling northbound on 36th Lane near Pueblo when she entered the intersection at Highway 50B and was struck by an eastbound Schwans truck.

The truck collided with the driver’s side of the Mazda.

The woman driving the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene. The man driving the truck was transported to Parkview Hospital.

Traffic was rerouted through Baxter Road and 36th Lane.

Pickup Truck Crashes into Pole, Occupants Flee Scene

(COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.) -- Police are investigating a vehicular accident in Colorado Springs, which occurred early Thursday morning.

Officials say officers were dispatched to the 300 block of South Hancock Avenue just after 4 a.m. in response to an accident in the area. Officers say when they got to the scene they discovered that a pickup truck, which was traveling south on the roadway, crashed into a wooden electricity pole and came to rest on its left side. A fire, which reportedly resulted from the accident, had to be extinguished by firefighters.

Police say the male driver of the vehicle, along with a male passenger, fled the scene before officers arrived. The identities of the car's occupants are unknown, and authorities don't know if they were injured in the crash.

Colorado Man Identified in Sexual Assault Video of Baby

(BAKERSFIELD, Calif.) – Federal officials identified a man who recorded his sexual assault on a baby in California in 2009.

Officials say that federal agents investigating a child pornography case in Boston came across the video of Shawn McCormack sexually assaulting the 11-month-old in a Bakersfield hotel. After an investigation in which federal officials identified a California program and commercial on a TV in the background of the video as well as furniture from the California Best Inn, McCormack was identified as the person staying at the hotel on March 28, 2009, the day of the assault. 

McCormack, who is from Black Forest and is a friend of the boy's family, was arrested by Colorado police and faces extradition to California in the coming weeks.

Colorado Springs Kitchen Fire Displaces Three People

(COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.) -- A person was treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a kitchen of a Colorado Springs home Tuesday night, ABC News Colorado Springs affiliate KRDO-TV reports.

Fire officials responded to the scene at 2722 Jon St. around 7:45 p.m. and extinguished the fire that was contained to the kitchen.

Three people and four animals were displaced and are now being offered assistance by the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire was not reported.

Suspect Arrested following Knife Attack

(COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.) -- A man was arrested by police on Tuesday following a reported knife attack in Colorado Springs.

Police say around 11:35 a.m. they were dispatched to a location in the 300 block of University Drive on a report of a disturbance. Officers say when they arrived on the scene, they confronted suspect Norman Simington, Jr., and eventually took the suspect into custody.

A victim was found at the scene with injuries sustained from the knife, and was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to officials.

Simington is charged with first-degree assault and criminal attempt second-degree assault.
