Anita Perry in Media Spotlight After Remarks on Husband's Campaign

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry's wife spoke on Thursday at North Greenville University in South Carolina, saying she convinced him to run for president.

Anita Perry said God spoke to her about her husband running, but it took the governor some time to agree with her. Gov. Perry has dropped in polls, and his wife explained the drop by saying his campaign has been affected because of his faith and because Gov. Perry is the only true conservative.

Gov. Perry's campaign rolls on with a stop in Pennsylvania on Friday.

911 Call About Shooting Leads to Discovery of 4 Bodies in Liberty

(LIBERTY, S.C.) -- Authorities say four people were found dead in two trailers in Pickens County on Friday morning.

Officials say the four bodies were discovered after a report came in around 6 a.m. stating that a male had shot himself. Two bodies were reportedly found in each of the neighboring trailers, on Pinedale Road in Liberty.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are reportedly assisting in the investigation.

South Carolina’s Transportation Department Strapped for Cash 

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) -- South Carolina Transportation Department officials are expecting to experience more cash flow problems in October and December.

The Greenville News reports that the agency failed to pay contractors and the State Infrastructure Bank on time over the summer, blaming the payment delay on peak construction and an increase in material costs.

The agency is expecting to experience a cash shortage of between $4 million and $5 million in October and another $3 million in December.

SC Towns Honored with Safest Community Awards

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) -- AAA Carolinas' Foundation for Traffic Safety on Thursday honored South Carolina towns with safest communities awards.

The awards, presented at a luncheon in Columbia, were based on crash statistics and law enforcement officers per capita. AAA officials said the awards were to recognize the towns that helped make the state's roads safer.

Winners with populations of 30,000 or more included Goose Creek and Mount Pleasant, while Hanahan and Mauldin were among winning towns with populations below 30,000.

Six Injured at South Carolina State Fair

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) -- Six people were injured Wednesday night at the South Carolina State Fair after being struck by pieces of metal that flew from a Midway ride.

The State reports that the welding from the Banzai ride gave way, sending the metal flying into the six teenagers shortly after 8 p.m., according to the state fair’s manager Gary Goodman.

Five people received minor cuts while the sixth person suffered a bruised shoulder.

The ride was shut down and is pending inspection.
