Artists and Supporters Organize Occupy the Arts Rally for Next Week

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) -- South Carolina arts groups are planning a rally next week in protest of Gov. Nikki Haley's budget veto that shut down the S.C. Arts Commission on Friday, The State reports.

Haley announced Friday that she was rejecting $3.5 million -- the entire budget for the arts commission, which gives grants for statewide art projects and oversees South Carolina's art colletion. As a result, 20 employees are out of work.

By Sunday, artists and arts supporters organized the SC Occupy the Arts rally at the State House ground from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 16, the paper says.

The General Assembly returns for a veto session the following day.
