Environmentalists Seek to Save S.C. Reptiles, Amphibians

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) -- On Wednesday, the Center for Biological Diversity filed a formal petition under the Endangered Species Act to protect the following South Carolina reptiles and amphibians: green salamander, Carolina gopher frog, southern hog-nosed snake and Florida pine snake.

The center reports about 25 percent of amphibians and reptiles in the U.S. face extinction due to factors like climate change, pollution and habitat destruction.
