SC Class of 2012 Breaks $1 Billion Mark in Scholarship Awards

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) -- The state Department of Education released figures Friday showing that South Carolina's Class of 2012 has broken the $1 billion mark in scholarship awards, The Post and Courier reports.

South Carolina's senior class this year earned $1.06 billion in scholarsihps, $966 million more than last year. This class is also the fist to break the billion-dollar mark, the paper says.

The scholarship figure, which has steadily risen since from $684 million in 2007, is based on an annual survey of charter schools and school districts.
