SC Senate Approves Bill to Add Nine New Judges

(COLUMBIA, S.C.) -- A new bill approved by the South Carolina Senate on Tuesday will create nine new judges in the state.

The State reports that three judges will be added to the circuit court and six in the family court.

S.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean Toal argued for years that more judges were necessary to help relieve case backlogs. The Palmetto State ranks last in the nation in judges per capita. It has fewer than one judge for every 100,000 people, according to Toal.
