Polygamist Leader Jeffs Files Motion to Dismiss Judge

(SAN ANGELO, Texas) -- On Monday, Warren Jeffs, leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, filed a motion to dismiss the judge presiding over his sexual assault trial.

Jeffs stated that God said Texas District Judge Barbara Walther should recuse herself from the case. Jeffs' trial resumed after an hour of deliberation by another judge who dismissed the 55-year-old's motion. This is the third time Jeffs has tried to remove Walther from his case.

Jeffs is accused of sexually assaulting two child brides aged 15 and 12.  He is representing himself after firing his attorneys last week.

The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which has an estimated 10,000 followers, was founded by members who left the Utah-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in order to continue the practice of polygamy.
