New Identity Theft Crime on the Rise in North Texas

(DALLAS) -- Police across North Texas are warning citizens about a new type of identity theft on the rise called skimming.

It works by thieves putting wireless devices or "skimmers" on debit card machines and the devices record your account and pin numbers. Once the criminals get access to that information, they can fleece your entire bank account.

Investigators advise people going to bank machines to keep an eye out for any strange behavior in or around the machines. Also, if you use your card as a credit card, there is no need to input your PIN and the account cannot be stolen.
