Receptionist Sues Former Boss for Allegedly Firing Her for Not Getting Abortion

(DALLAS) -- A woman is suing her former boss for allegedly firing her for not getting an abortion, the Dallas News reports.

Christina Garcia said in the lawsuit filed this week that she told her boss, Dr. Meenakshi S. Prabhakar, a Dallas infectious diseases doctor, that she was pregnant in March 2011. The suit states that Prabhakar told Garcia, his receptionist since August 2010, to get an abortion or else he would fire her, the paper reports.

Discriminating against employees for being pregnant is illegal in Texas. The suit says Prabhakar fired Garcia on March 7. The suit also says Prabhakar offered to pay for the abortion and college expenses if Garcia began taking birth control medication, according to the Dallas News.

Prabhakar has been a licensed physician in Texas since 1997.
