Robber Steals Cash, Sets Gas Station Clerk on Fire

(GARLAND, Texas) -- A 36-year-old man was arrested Sunday after officials say he robbed a Garland gas station and set one of its employees on fire.

Police say the incident happened around 7 a.m. at the Fina Whip-In gas station located in the area of Broadway and Colonel Drive. A man carrying a bottle of flammable liquid reportedly entered the store and robbed the store of an undisclosed sum of cash, before throwing the flammable substance on the 76-year-old female clerk and setting the woman on fire, according to ABC's Dallas affiliate WFAA-TV.

The woman has been hospitalzed in unknown condition.

Police arrested Matthew Johnson in connection with the crime, charging him with attempted capital murder and robbery.
