The Fight Against Zebra Mussels

(COLLIN COUNTY, Texas) -- Officials from Texas Parks and Wildlife are asking boaters in North Texas to help stop the spread of zebra mussels in the area, according to a report from ABC affiliate WFAA.

Boaters are urged to drain, dry, and clean their boats in an effort to stop the mussels from moving to other bodies of water.  Officials at a Lake Lavon press conference on Thursday demonstrated how to properly clean boats to prevent the spread of the mussels, which are an invasive species.

Texas state law says all boats and on-board containers must be drained before they travel on roads, according to the report.
