Des Moines Man Found Dead in Polk County

(POLK COUNTY, Iowa) -- A body found in Polk County on Thursday has been identified as that of a Des Moines man.

The dead man as been identified as 49-year-old Barton Tingley, Polk County authorities said in published reports.

Tingley's body was found in an area off Northeast 166th Avenue on Thursday afternoon.

An autopsy is to be done to determine the cause of death.

Teen Attacked Outside Middle School

(DES MOINES, Iowa) -- A 14-year-old boy was reportedly attacked outside his middle school on Thursday.

According to the Des Moines Register, the boy was a student at Weeks Middle School. He reportedly told police that he was standing on the north side of the school at about 2:30 p.m. when someone approached him from behind and punched him in the head.

The boy was knocked to the ground and was punched several more times by the suspect, who then fled on foot.

Police have not made any arrests, says the Register.

Des Moines Police Investigating Apparent Hoax

(DES MOINES, Iowa) -- Police are working to determine who was behind an apparent hoax that prompted several police officers to respond to a false report in Des Moines on Thursday night.

Police responded to the 3800 block of 54th Street around 9 p.m. Thursday, following a report that someone had shot their mother and was in a home with explosives and firearms, published reports stated. The report was made via a relay system used by the deaf.

After surrounding the home and blocking off the area, police were later able to determine that no one was actually in the home at the time and that the report may have been a hoax.

Seven-Hour Standoff in Boone Ends in Arrest

(BOONE, Iowa) -- A standoff that began Wednesday night ended early Thursday morning with a man being arrested by police in Boone.

The standoff began shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday at a home on the 500 block of Main Street, after police received a report of a domestic situation. According to published reports, authorities said that suspect Joshua Daniels barricaded himself in the house when officers arrived, and refused to come out.

Police eventually entered the house around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, and arrested Daniels.

Man Arrested After Firing Gun to Scare Away Fiancee's Attackers

(DES MOINES, Iowa) -- A man was arrested after he allegedly fired a gun into the air to scare away his fiancée's attackers.

According to the Des Moines Register, David Walker Jr., 29, was taken into custody at his home on Wednesday on charges of reckless use of a firearm. Walker told the police that his fiancée had walked outside of their home and yelled across the street asking their neighbors to quiet down.

A group of juveniles allegedly attacked the woman, pulling her away from the home and punching her in the face. According to the Register, Walker grabbed his gun and fired twice into the air, scaring the youth away.

Walker's fiancée suffered a bloody nose along with bruising and swelling to her face, says the Register. Walker was released Wednesday night.

During the melee, officers saw a man across the street toss an object away. The Register reports that the object turned out to be an illegal knife with a spring-loaded blade. Craig D'Shon Hunt, 18, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and is currently being held in Polk County Jail.
