Long Distance Abortion Not Sanctioned by Iowa Medical Board
(DES MOINES, Iowa) – After receiving complaints from a pro-life organization about a controversial abortion practice, the Iowa Board of Medicine has decided to take no action to halt it.
Operation Rescue, the group dedicated to eradicating abortions, complained to the Iowa regulatory agency that a Planned Parenthood doctor was violating state law by proctoring abortions via Skype. Dr. Susan Haskell, the physician named in the complaint, talks to patients in remote locations via a webcam, and then presses a button that opens a drawer for the patient to receive an abortion pill under her supervision. A second pill is taken at home which completes the process.
