Man Charged with VanLo Murder Transferred to Polk County Jail

(DES MOINES, Iowa) -- Officials say a man charged with the murder of a Des Moines teenager was transferred to the Polk County Jail on Sunday, The Des Moines Register reports.
Raymond Benitez, 19, who friends say was 18-year-old Judy VanLo's boyfriend, was taken into custody June 22 in Texas on a material witness warrant as he attempted to cross the Mexico border.
Benitez faces a first-degree murder charge with a cash-only bond of $500,000. He chose not to fight extradition back to Des Moines, the paper says.
VanLo was found dead in her family's home on June 17. Police said the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
