Police Arrest Former Girl Scout Leader for Stealing Troop Funds
(DES MOINES, Iowa) -- Police have arrested a former Girl Scout troop leader accused of stealing money from the organization's bank account, the Des Moines Register reports.
Jeri Bruce, 34, is charged with third-degree theft and unauthorized use of credit cards. The leader who took over after Bruce left for unrelated reasons told police she noticed "suspicious purchases" of more than $2,000 and over $8,000 in missing profits from cookie sales while going through bank account statements, the paper says.
The troop's money, raised through dues and cookie sales, was intended for a year-end ceremony and trip, according to the Register.
