Police Report Attempted Abduction of Fifth-Grade Girl

(WAUKEE, Iowa) -- Police say a man tried to lure a fifth-grade girl into a van Wednesday morning in an attempted abduction, The Des Moines Register reports.

Police said the girl was in the 3300 block of Ashworth Road waiting for her school bus just after 9 a.m. when the driver got out of his van and told her to get inside. The girl reportedly ran toward her home and the van left in an unknown direction, the paper says.

The man is described as approximately 30 years old. He was wearing black shoes, a black hat and black sunglasses. He was driving a deep purple van with three black stripes on the side with tinted windows and red wheel rims.

Attempted abductions have been reported in Perry, Adel, Colo, Slater and Pleasant Hill in recent months.
