Woman's Body Found in Burned Apartment in Des Moines

(DES MOINES, Iowa) -- A woman’s body was found inside a Des Moines apartment Wednesday morning.
The Des Moines Register reports that Debra Dillard, 55, was found dead after a welfare check was conducted at an apartment located at 1204 Hartford Ave. about 8:30 a.m.
Des Moines police found smoke stains on the apartment windows. Fire officials later confirmed there was a fire in the apartment that was likely self-extinguished due to lack of oxygen.
An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death.
An investigation to determine the cause of the fire is underway.
