$14.3 Billion Education Budget Passes in Michigan
(LANSING, Mich.) -- On Tuesday, a 14.3-billion-dollar education budget passed in the Michigan Senate, with $12.6 billion going to secondary education and $1.6 billion devoted to higher education.
Democrats are still upset with the budget, saying it is still much less funding than in previous years, The Huffington Post reports.
David Hecker, president of Michigan's chapter of the American Federation of Teachers union, says “these budgets barely scratch the surface of last year’s devastating cuts.” He adds, “Slashing money for education in our state is pitting school districts and colleges against one another as they compete for the same funds."
