Decline in Alcohol and Drug Related Crashes in Michigan
(LANSING, Mich.) -- Alcohol- and drug-related crashes are down in Michigan, according to figures released by the Michigan State Police (MSP) on Thursday.
The 2011 Michigan Drunk Driving Audit shows that there were 319 fatal alcohol and/or drug-related crashes last year, down from 357 in 2010. Crashes with injuries related to drugs and alcohol were also down from 6,175 in 2010 to 6,086 in 2011.
"Drug-involved deaths and injuries have been increasing across the country," MSP Director Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue said in a statement. "Officers in Michigan will continue to receive advanced training to help them identify and arrest drunk and drugged drivers in an effort to make our roads safer."
