Lansing Mayor Urges Colleagues to Buy American

(LANSING, Mich.) -- The mayor of one Michigan city is doing his part to urge colleagues in his city and those across the state and country to buy products made in America.

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero is pushing for the consumption of local goods, from police cars to town t-shirts. Bernero says local government spending can make a difference. But what about the need to buy from the lowest bidder? Bernero says cost shouldn't always come first.

"You know, maybe we should say you'll go with the lowest other than, you can pay ten percent more than the lowest in order to keep it made in America," Bernero said.
