Man Accused of Scamming Vietnamese Community in Mich.

(LANSING, Mich.) -- A California man is facing a list of criminal charges in connection with an alleged investment scam targeting the Vietnamese community in Michigan.

Hiep The Trinh, 45, of Fullerton, Calif., faces charges of conducting criminal enterprises, fraudulent sales of securities, false pretenses ($20,000 or more), general violations of Securities Act and fraud (sale of fraudulent stock).

Michigan authorities said between November 2005 and October 2008, Trinh convinced members of Michigan's Vietnamese community to invest in a hi-tech manufacturing company that didn't actually exist. Trinh is accused of selling approximately $750,000 in fake stocks to eleven victims and using the money to support a lavish lifestyle for himself.
