New Rules in Midwife Bill for Deliveries Outside of Hospitals
(LANSING, Mich.) -- State Senator Gretchen Whitmer from East Lansing introduced a bill on Wednesday that would force new regulations on midwives who help deliver babies outside of hospitals, reports the Lansing State Journal.
Whitmer was inspired to draft this bill after she met a couple from DeWitt whose baby died after a breeched midwife-assisted birth.
Senate Bill 1208 would make it necessary for all midwives to have medical malpractice insurance, as well as stop all home births with mothers whose babies are breech or have other serious problems.
