Woman Files Lawsuit Against State for Denying Equal Access to Disabled

(DETROIT) -- A Farmington Hills woman sued the State of Michigan in federal court on Tuesday, claiming that disabled workers are denied equal access to a state office building in Detroit, the Detroit News reports.

Jill Babcock, an employee at Michigan Economic Development Corp., said wheelchair ramps are too steep outside the Cadillac Place building on West Grand Boulevard. She also said the facility lacks available handicap parking. The lawsuit states that the building was renovated in 2002, but failed to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the paper says.  

Babcock, who suffers from a disease that attacks the nervous system, is aiming to force the state and the Michigan Strategic Fund to comply with the Act.
