Aerosmith's Brad Whitford on Hendrix Tour, Steven Tyler as Judge

Photo Courtesy - Aerosmith(NEW YORK) -- Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford is part of this year's Experience Hendrix tour.  Also featuring artists like Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Robert Randolph, Jonny Lang, Steve Vai, Susan Tedeschi and others, the tour, which celebrates the music of Jimi Hendrix, kicks off on Tuesday in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and will cross the U.S. and Canada until it wraps up on Nov. 20 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

This will be Whitford's third time on the tour, and at this point, he says his favorite part of the shows is "getting to spend a lot of time with a lot of other musicians that I have a lot of respect for."  Some of Whitford's fondest tour memories include playing songs like "Fire," "Spanish Castle Magic" and "The Wind Cries Mary" with Lang -- "You couldn't ask for three better songs to play," he says.

As for the different performances of Hendrix's catalog on the show, Whitford says that "some of the performances are very faithful to original recordings and then there's other songs that are interpretations."

Whitford is also glad to be back on stage now that Aerosmith's tour has come to a close.  With frontman Steven Tyler getting ready to debut as a judge on American Idol, Whitford offered his take on what kind of judge Tyler would be.

He says that Tyler "isn't capable of being as rough as Simon [Cowell]," but will be "more like a Paula Abdul."  Whitford's reasoning is that Tyler is "more apt to try and give helpful suggestions rather than say 'Hey, that sucked.'"
