James Macarthur, Original Danno On 'Hawaii Five-0,' Dies at 72

(Photo Courtesy - John Chiasson/Liaison/Getty) (LOS ANGELES) -- James MacArthur, who played Danny "Danno" Williams on the original Hawaii Five-0, died Thursday morning, a spokesperson for Paramount tells Entertainment Weekly. He was 72. MacArthur was the adopted son of theater legend Helen Hayes. In recent weeks, there had been talk of MacArthur making a cameo in the revamped Hawaii Five-0 that currently airs on CBS. Scott Caan plays the role of Danno in that series.
In addition to playing Danno for 11 years on Hawaii Five-0, MacArthur appeared in the such movies as Swiss Family Robinson, Hang 'em High and The Battle of the Bulge. He also appeared on Broadway in Invitation To a March.
He was a frequent guest star on other TV series, with roles over the years on Bonanza, Gunsmoke, The Virginian, The Untouchables, Tarzan, Murder, She Wrote, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island and Vega$.
