Bruno Mars Formally Charged with Drug Possession

Photo Courtesy - Elektra Records(LAS VEGAS) -- Singer Bruno Mars has been formally charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, a spokesperson for the Las Vegas district attorney's office tells Entertainment Weekly.  This comes after the singer's Sept. 19 arrest in Las Vegas.  Police allegedly discovered him at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino with 2.6 grams of cocaine.  He's due back in court Nov. 18.

Entertainment Weekly reports that if Mars is convicted, he could serve one to four years in prison, and/or pay a fine of up to five thousand dollars.  However, Nevada law states that if a person has no prior convictions, they're to be placed on probation instead.

Bruno's debut album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, is due out on Tuesday.
