Taylor Swift's CD Makes Biggest Sales Debut Since 2005

Photo Courtesy - Big Machine Records(LOS ANGELES) -- Taylor Swift's Speak Now has spoken. The disc sold a whopping 1,047,000 copies in its first week in stores, according to Nielsen Soundscan. That's the biggest first-week sales for an album since 2005, when 50 Cent's The Massacre debuted with 1,141,000 copies.

Taylor also is leading the charge for female artists -- she's the first female artist to sell over a million one week since Britney Spears did it ten years ago with Oops! I Did It Again. That album sold 1,319,000 copies in a week. Overall, just four women have sold a million-plus in a week since 1991, when Soundscan started keeping track of album sales: Taylor, Britney, Whitney Houston and Norah Jones.

Since 1991, only 16 albums in total have sold at least a million copies in a week. The last time it happened was back in 2008, when Lil Wayne's album Tha Carter III sold 1,006,000 copies. The all-time record, likely never to be repeated, is the one-week tally of 2,416,000 copies in a single week, held by 'N Sync's 2000 album No Strings Attached.
