(PASADENA, Calif.) -- The countdown is on for the return of 24. Fox announced Monday that 24: Live Another Day, with Kiefer Sutherland reprising his role as agent Jack Bauer, will debut May 5 with a two-hour episode.
24: Live Another Day finds Sutherland reviving the role he made famous for eight seasons, from 2001 to 2010. The latest chapter is set in London, with Bauer attempting to put a stop to a planned terrorist attack.
24: Live Another Day will feature the return of original cast members Mary Lynn Rajskub, Kim Raver and William Devane. New additions to the cast include Dexter's Yvonne Strahovski and Oscar-nominated actress Judy Davis.
There's still hope for a 24 movie, too. Sutherland noted at a Television Critics Association panel on Monday that it's "an ongoing situation."
According to Entertainment Weekly, Sutherland said, "There’s always an opportunity to do that. But [executive producer] Howard [Gordon] came up for a 12-episode run of this and this opportunity presented to us first. It’s a fantastic idea. If this ends up causing a film to be made, so be it.”
Some other Fox news and notes to come out of the TCAs:
-- Andy Samberg's Lonely Island comedy trio will develop projects for various digital platforms and perhaps ultimately for Fox's family of networks, under a new multi-year deal. The news comes on the heels of Samberg's freshman Fox series, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, winning the Golden Globe for best TV comedy, and Samberg taking the best TV comedy actor prize.
-- According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly commented on the network's Batman prequel, Gotham. Though the show will revolve around Commissioner Gordon, it will also include a very young Bruce Wayne. The hope, Reilly said, is to build the story to the point when Wayne becomes Batman. Gotham may also feature villains such as the Joker, the Riddler, Catwoman and the Penguin.
-- The network confirmed Prince will guest star in the post-Super Bowl episode of New Girl. It will be followed by a special episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, with guest stars Fred Armisen and Super Bowl-winning quarterback Joe Theismann. Fox will air the Super Bowl on Feb. 2.
-- Scrubs and Cougar Town creator Bill Lawrence's latest comedy, Surviving Jack, will debut on March 27. It stars former Law & Order: SVU actor Christopher Meloni and is based on the book I Suck at Girls, by S*** My Dad Says author Justin Halpern.
-- The drama Gang Related, about a gang task force in Los Angeles, will premiere May 20.
