What's the Saddest Movie of All Time?

Ryan McVay/Thinkstock(BERKELEY, Calif.) -- What's the saddest movie of all time? Although this may seem like a question that's open for debate, there is actually a scientific answer.

According to Smithsonian.com, a scientific study from the University of California at Berkeley has determined that the saddest movie of all time is The Champ.

The 1979 film tells the story of a washed-up boxer who returns to the ring to try and make enough money to retain custody of his son.

The study found that the scene in the movie that consistently caused the most people to cry was when The Champ dies as his son pleads for him to wake up.

Leighton Meester Countersued by Mother

Photos.com/Jupiterimages(LOS ANGELES) -- Leighton Meester's mother wasted no time in responding to a lawsuit filed against her by the Gossip Girl star last week. Meester claims in her suit that her mom, Constance Meester, spent some of the $7,500 per month the actress says she sent for her ailing younger brother on cosmetic procedures.

According to E! Online, Constance has filed a countersuit, insisting that she had an agreement with her daughter to receive $10,000 per month -- a contention that Leighton denied in her complaint. Constance further claims that she spent over $230,000 and "sacrificed her happiness" by moving around the country to help launch Leighton's career. TMZ.com reports that Constance says the money sent by Leighton was not intended for her brother, but was instead a type of settlement.

The allegations don't end there. According to E! Online, Constance's lawsuit claims Leighton contacted social services and falsely accused Constance of abusing a wound on her son's head. TMZ also says that Constance alleges Leighton attacked her with a bottle last December.

Leighton's lawsuit asks a judge to rule that she did not have a $10,000 per-month deal with her mother.

Ben F. & J.P. Advance to 'The Bachelorette' Season Finale

Chris Harrison, host of the ABC show The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. (Photo by Donald B. Kravitz/Getty Images)(LOS ANGELES) -- Next week, we'll learn if The Bachelorette star Ashley Hebert is engaged to Ben F. or J.P. -- or neither. They're the two men left standing on the ABC series following Monday night's installment. Of course, given the shaky history of past Bachelor/Bachelorette relationships, there are no guarantees that the season will end with Ashley wearing a ring on her finger.

Monday night, Ashley was joined in Fiji by Ben F., J.P., Constantine, and, in a surprise cameo, the previously eliminated Ryan P., who begged Ashley for a second chance. Even so, Ryan wasn't given the opportunity to go on a date with Ashley, who eventually decided to send him home for a second time, saying they lacked passion together.

Ashley's first date was with Ben F., with whom she went snorkeling. Ben was smitten with Ashley, saying he was on his "way to the whole 'I love you' thing." The comment segued into Ashley inviting him to a fantasy suite, giving him the opportunity to spend the night with her. He accepted.

Ashley's time with Constantine came to an abrupt end after they explored a rainforest and waterfall. He rejected the invite to the fantasy suite because, he said, he wasn't 100-percent sure he wanted to marry her. Ashley was visibly upset, but she respected his honesty. With that, the two parted ways for good.

For her final date, Ashley and J.P. played in the water. He was somewhat reluctant to fully commit to her because she was still romancing other men. Nevertheless, he was willing to enter the fantasy suite with her, saying, "I think I'm into that."

Despite Constantine leaving the show, Ashley still held a rose ceremony because she wanted to be certain that Ben and J.P. were still interested in her. They both accepted a rose from her and will remain in Fiji for next Monday's finale, when they'll meet with her family. The season finale will be followed by the After the Final Rose special.

On Sunday, the night before the finale, ABC will air a reunion special featuring the eliminated suitors.

Report: Jesse James and Kat Von D Call Off Engagement

Jordan Strauss/WireImage(NEW YORK) -- Jesse James and Kat Von D have called off their engagement and have decided to go their separate ways, People.com reports.

James tells the magazine, “I’m so sad because I really love her. The distance between us was just too much.”

James and Von D, the tattoo artist star of L.A. Ink, became engaged in January and had been planning a summer wedding around the one-year anniversary of when they started dating.

However, the magazine reports the commute between Austin, Texas, where James lives with his three children, and Los Angeles, where Von D. shoots her reality show, proved to be too much for the couple.

Just last month, James denied rumors the couple was having problems and had called off their wedding, telling People, “We’re still going strong. Things are completely good with us.”

Jesse James was previously married to Sandra Bullock. The couple divorced in June 2010 after reports of his infidelities made headlines.

A spokesperson for the Winehouse family told reporters Monday that the singer's "funeral will take place on Tuesday and will be a family and close friends affair."

Earlier Monday, officials began an autopsy to determine what killed the 27-year-old singer, who was found dead in her home in London's Camden district on Saturday. They are waiting for the results of a toxicology test, which are anticipated in two to four weeks. No formal cause of death has been established, and officials reportedly have not find any paraphernalia or sign of drugs in Winehouse's home.
