(NEW YORK) -- Actress Yvette Wilson, best known for her role as Andell Wilkerson on the hit 90s sitcom Moesha and later its spinoff The Parkers, has died, ABC News Radio confirmed. She was 48.
The Los Angeles-born actress succumbed to cervical cancer after a variety of medical problems. According to a website created to meet her mounting medical bills, she also suffered from kidney failure. The site, started by friend Jeffrey Pittle, had raised half of the needed $25,000 for a kidney transplant and other medical bills at the time of her death. Pittle confirmed Wilson's death to ABC News Radio.
Wilson began her career as a comedian, even appearing on Russell Simmons' Def Comedy Jam. She had also appeared in a number of films including House Party 3, Friday and Poetic Justice alongside Janet Jackson.
Shar Jackson, Wilson's co-star on Moesha and Kevin Federline's ex-girlfriend, tweeted, "Oh god..... My heart is soooo unbelievably broken...god has chosen to take my sister Yvette home..."
Wilson's family has not announced details regarding her funeral arrangements yet.
