Alec Baldwin Turns to Humor in Wake of Run-In with Photog

LOIC VENANCE/AFP/GettyImages(NEW YORK) -- Alec Baldwin is using his comedic skills to try to ease some of the tension created when he was captured on video hurling what sounded like a gay slur at a photographer outside his New York City home last week.

The actor was speaking at a major tech conference in San Francisco on Wednesday when he asked a member of his crew to stand up.  Then, according to TMZ, Baldwin joked, "I want you to be my lover, Matt." He added, "I love you, Matt. I love you in that way."

The audience laughed and Baldwin noted that during his lifetime he has loved some men more than women, but never in a sexual way.

Baldwin again denied using a gay slur, but he did tell the packed house that he now realizes he needs to be more careful about his choice of words. He said, "If in any context in the world that we live in today, if any word is remotely offensive to people, then I'm perfectly willing to learn a different word."

Last week, TMZ posted a video of the actor's latest confrontation with a photographer, and the fallout from the incident caused MSNBC to suspend Baldwin's new talk show, Up Late with Alec Baldwin, for two weeks.

Baldwin also cautioned the audience not to believe everything they read and hear online. He explained, "There is a drive-by justice to the Internet society. They indict you, convict you and hang you on the same day."
