"American Idol" Recap: Devin Velez Goes Home; Girls Continue to Dominate the Competition

George Holz / FOX(LOS ANGELES) -- Things are looking really bleak for the guys on American Idol this season. Devin Velez got the boot on Thursday's results show. The judges decided they wouldn't use their one save of the season on Devin, even after he showed off his bilingual talents singing "Somos Novios (It's Impossible)" in both English and Spanish.

Burnell Taylor and Lazaro Arbos were in the bottom three with Devin, while the five remaining female contestants were all safe. Burnell and Lazaro will be around to compete next week.

Kree Harrison got a special phone message from Aretha Franklin herself, praising Kree's Wednesday night performance of her song "Don't Play That Song." The message was played on the show, and Aretha said Kree "put that one away."

Continuing the week's Detroit theme, the top eight opened the show with a group performance of Motor City native Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock & Roll."

Season 11 finalist Colton Dixon returned Thursday night to premiere his new Christian music single, "Love Has Come for Me." Colton also shook hands with contestant Angie Miller, who sang his "Never Gone," earlier this season.

OneRepublic welcomed former Idol contestant and actress Katherine McPhee to sing a new version of their single "If I Lose Myself." Idol judge Keith Urban also took the stage to perform his recent country hit, "Long Hot Summer." His fellow judges gave him a standing ovation, and Mariah Carey held up a sign that read, "#1 Keith Fan."

American Idol returns next Wednesday night at 8 Eastern on FOX with performances from the remaining seven contestants.
