(NEW YORK) -- Andy Dick says the opportunity to compete on the upcoming edition of ABC's Dancing with the Stars comes at just the right time in his life.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the comedian admits he's still dealing with sobriety issues and the chance to compete on DWTS is something he needed. "I'm in a place where I needed something like this. It came...from God," the comedian says.
Andy Dick says he actually hired somebody to monitor his struggles with alcohol and entered himself in a sober living facility over the holidays to help him avoid booze.
The 47-year-old comedian says he "had to have a meeting" with Dancing with the Stars producers about his alcohol issues, explaining, "I think they basically just wanted me to show up not drunk."
Quizzed about his dance skills, the former Less Than Perfect star admits his dancing "is like…Napoleon Dynamite.”
The cast of the new season of Dancing with the Stars also includes singer Wynonna Judd, comedian D.L. Hughley, Lisa Vanderpump of Bravo's Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, boxer Victor Ortiz, Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman, Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman, actor Ingo Rademacher, singer Kellie Pickler, Olympic gold medalist Dorothy Hamill and NFL star Jacoby Jones.
A 12th celebrity participant will be revealed before the new DWTS season begins on Monday, March 18.
