Avengers Disassemble: What's in Store for "Iron Man 3," "Thor 2"?

Charles Eshelman/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) -- With The Avengers a record-shattering smash hit, millions of fans are wondering what's next for the Marvel heroes?

Iron Man 3 is already underway in North Carolina and Thor 2 will follow that.  But after The Avengers, what can fans expect when the Avenger heroes retreat to their individual sequels?

"The Avengers was not a finale for us," Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige tells the U.K. movie magazine Empire.

Cryptically, Feige says about Iron Man 3, "We don't equate bigger with better.  It's Tony's [Tony Stark, Iron Man's alter-ego] most personal journey since he was trapped in a cave in the first half of the first movie, but it'll also have the largest spectacle of any of the Iron Man movies."

IM3 won't be directed by original series director Jon Favreau; writer/director Shane Black reunites with his Kiss Kiss Bang Bang star Robert Downey Jr. for the third film.

For Thor 2, Feige reveals, "...the events of Avengers will have affected Thor for sure.  His relationship with Loki will continue to evolve, and the biggest part is Natalie Portman, and Thor returning with [her character] Jane Foster."

Iron Man 3 is slated to open May 3, 2013 while Thor 2 should hit theaters on November 15, 2013.
