(NEW YORK) -- Let the Oscar buzz begin. The trailer for David O. Russell's American Hustle just came out, featuring a star-packed dream cast made up of his last two award-winning movies.
2013 Oscar nominees Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro join their Academy Award-winning Silver Linings Playbook co-star Jennifer Lawrence in Hustle, as does Amy Adams and Christian Bale, the latter of whom snagged an Oscar for his work in Russell's The Fighter.
The filmmaker says he couldn't think of a better cast for the 1970s-set drama.
"These are the actors that I love," Russell says. "They're actors that I love to work with and who, we have a good process together and we can go for it, you know...creating characters that are very deep and that the actors are very committed to, and that they become lost in."
The movie's period wardrobe and hairstyles, including a perm for Cooper, and a Aqua Net frozen comb-over for Bale, helped the actors lose themselves -- and, Russell hopes, will help the audience lose the stars.
"You know what I loved in The Fighter, was five minutes into the movie, people would say, "Wait a minute -- was that Christian Bale?...[H]e's playing someone very different than we've ever seen him play before. ...And that's true of just about everybody in this picture. So that's exciting," he says.
American Hustle opens on Dec. 25.
