'Black Swan' Producer Confident of Film's Oscar Chances

Photo Courtesy - Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- A producer of the Oscar-nominated Natalie Portman film Black Swan is confident heading into this Sunday's Academy Awards ceremony. Producer Mike Medavoy says he believes his film has a "good chance" of winning best picture, despite the fact that The King's Speech is the frontrunner in the category.

Win or lose, Medavoy credits director Darren Aronofsky for the film's success. He says Aronofsky was set to work on a Robocop reboot but shelved the project due to issues with the studio. Medavoy says it was also Aronofsky's idea to have Black Swan focus on the world of ballet. He says, "It somewhat reminded me of All About Eve, y'know, what happens to actors and actresses when they really want...a role. And it was Darren who actually had had conversations with Natalie about switching it to the ballet world. And when he suggested it I said, 'Yeah, why not?'"
