Cissy Houston Writes About Whitney's Troubles With Drugs; Discusses Bobby Brown's Role

Gilbert Carrasquillo/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) -- Over the years, people have discussed Whitney Houston's drug problems, and pointed the finger of blame squarely at the singer's ex-husband Bobby Brown.  But Whitney's mother, Cissy Houston, writes in her new memoir that she doesn't believe Bobby caused her daughter's substance abuse issues.

People shared an excerpt from Cissy's book Remembering Whitney, in which she writes, "I blame him for the way he treated her," referring to Bobby.  "But I don't blame him for her drug problems."  Nevertheless, she adds: "He was no help to her at all."

But Bobby wasn't the only person in Whitney's life who Cissy was suspicious of.  When it came to Whitney's former assistant Robyn Crawford, Cissy writes, "I just didn’t want her with my daughter."  And referring to rumors that Whitney and Robyn were more than friends, Cissy adds, "I know nothing about a romantic relationship. That's what everybody said but they didn't know either."

Nearly a year has gone by since Whitney was found dead in a hotel bathtub, with cocaine still in her system.  The scene still troubles Cissy, who says in her book, "I'm angry she died alone, in those conditions ... I'm still mad about that."

Remembering Whitney is expected to arrive in stores on Jan. 29.
