Conrad Murray: I Didn't Know Michael Jackson Was an Addict

David McNew-Pool/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Conrad Murray, who was convicted this week of involuntary manslaughter in Michael Jackson's death, believes the King of Pop misled him regarding his medical history.

In an interview with NBC's Today show taped before a verdict was reached in his trial, the doctor said he wishes that Jackson "would have been more forthcoming and honest to tell me these things about himself."

When Today's Savannah Guthrie asked Murray whether he thinks Jackson lied to him, he replied, "Definitely," then explained, "Certainly he was deceptive by not showing me his whole medical history, doctors he was seeing, treatments that he might have been receiving."

Murray, who was accused of administering a fatal dose of the powerful anesthetic propofol to Jackson, claims he did not know that the singer had an addiction problem.

Murray said it was difficult for him to be blamed for Jackson's death.

"I loved Michael too.  I'm as much of a fan as any of the others.  To be blamed for his death has not been an easy thing," he said.

More of Guthrie's interview with Murray will air on the Today show on Friday.  In addition, MSNBC will air a documentary on the case Friday.  Jackson's estate and various family members have criticized the cable network for scheduling the program.
