Photo Courtesy - Paul Redmond/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- It was rumored, but now it's been confirmed that American Idol season 7 champ David Cook has been tapped to record this year's Idol exit song -- the song that will play as each contestant is voted out of the competition.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, it's a remake of Simple Minds' 1985 smash "Don't You (Forget About Me)," from the movie The Breakfast Club.  You'll hear it starting next week.

In related news, if you pre-order David's second album at, you'll get the new song for free.  It'll go on sale March 8th at all digital retailers.  David co-wrote all the songs on as-yet-untitled sophomore album, the follow-up to his platinum-plus debut.  It's due out this spring.
