Doobie Brothers Drummer Mike Hossack Passes Away

Hemera/Thinkstock(DUBOIS, Wyo.) -- Longtime Doobie Brothers drummer Mike Hossack died at his home in Dubois, Wyoming, on Monday after a long battle with cancer, the Lake County News reports. He was 65.

Hossack joined The Doobies in 1971 and played on many of the band’s most famous songs, including “China Grove,” “Listen to the Music,” “Long Train Runnin’,” “Rockin’ Down the Highway,” and the chart-topping hit “Black Water.”

The drummer left the group in 1973 but rejoined the lineup when the rockers reunited in the late 1980s.  He continued playing with The Doobie Brothers until his health issues sidelined him in 2010.

Hossack, who was known as “Big Mike” to his friends, is survived by his son, Mike Jr., and his daughter, Erica Rose Oliver.

In a statement posted on the official Doobie Brothers website, the band writes, “Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and loved ones.  We will miss him greatly.”
