'Fast Five' Outruns Box Office Competition

Ryan McVay/Photodisc(LOS ANGELES) -- Fast Five proved too fast for the rest of the competition at the box office over the weekend. The fifth installment of the Fast and Furious movie series pulled in $83.6 million in its opening weekend to top box office sales.

Coming in a distant second was the animated film Rio, which garnered $14.4 million from movie patrons.

Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family ($10.1 million), Water for Elephants ($9.1 million) and Prom ($5 million) round out the weekend's top five at the box office, in that order.
