Former AMPAS President Tom Sherak Dies at 68

Valerie Macon/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) -- Tom Sherak, the former Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president, died Tuesday after a 12-year battle with prostate cancer. He was 68.

His family released a statement saying Sherak "died at home surrounded by his family giving him hugs, kisses, and love."

A former head of 20th Century Fox, Sherak oversaw production on such movies as Wall Street, Aliens, the re-release of the Star Wars trilogy, and Independence Day, among many others.
