Garth Brooks Wins in Trial Against Hospital

Ron Hoskins/Getty Images(YUKON, Okla.) -- Garth Brooks was awarded $500,000 along with an additional $150,000 for fraud in the trial against Integris Canadian Valley Hospital Tuesday night.

Jurors had begun deliberations Tuesday afternoon. After the verdict, they returned to deliberate about punitive damages, reported ABC affiliate KTUL.

This is likely a happy moment for Brooks, who tearfully remembered his mother in his testimony this week: “She was my budd…I was her biggest fan,” and, “If anybody met her, [they] would have gotten to love her.”

Colleen Brooks, his mother, lost her battle with cancer in 1999. In 2005, Garth Brooks donated $500,000 to the Integris Canadian Valley Hospital, in Yukon, Okla., for what he claimed he intended would be a woman’s center named after his mother.

The center was never built and Brooks sued in 2009. Brooks claimed he had a verbal agreement with the hospital and was shown mock-ups of the center.

Integris Canadian Valley Hospital insisted there were no conditions to the donation.
