Helena Bonham Carter: No Fat Suit for 'The King's Speech'

Photo Courtesy - Philip Schulte/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) -- Helena Bonham Carter usually wows with her way out-of-the-box ensembles. But at Friday night's QVC Red Carpet Style Party in Los Angeles, clad in her signature black, she dished about how she actually liked the demure clothes she wore in The King's Speech.

"They were really comfy," Carter told ABC News. "I could eat, which I did, lots."

Carter is up for a best supporting actress Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth. The petite star said that the Queen's more covered-up looks led some people to believe that she had added some padding to her figure.

"Someone actually asked me, 'Was the fat suit comfortable?' And I was like, 'Uh, I wasn't wearing a fat suit.' The looks weren't the most flattering. But God bless her, she wasn't renowned for her figure."

QVC's annual bash brought out a bevy of stars in addition to Carter. Attendees included Mandy Moore, Joan Rivers, Donald and Melania Trump, Dancing With the Stars pro Karina Smirnoff, Gossip Girls mom Kelly Rutherford and celebrity hairstylist Ken Paves.

The hot topic of the night: who's going to wear what to the Oscars? Carter said she's eager to see how fellow Oscar nominee Javier Bardem suits up but declined to discuss what she might rock on the red carpet.

"I don't know," she said. "I might just go very straightforward and grown up."
