"Hobbit" Stays Atop Box Office for Third Straight Week

Warner Bros.(LOS ANGELES) -- The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug won the box office again this weekend, marking its third consecutive week in the top position.

Smaug raked in $29.85 million in the U.S. between Friday and Sunday, down slightly less than two million from last weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.

The second film in the Hobbit trilogy, based on J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace and Orlando Bloom.

Frozen climbed to second over the weekend, bringing in $28.845 million, holding off Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
