(NEW YORK) -- CBS’ How I Met Your Mother concluded its ninth and final season Monday night with Josh Radnor's character, Ted, finally meeting Cristin Milioti's Tracy, his wife and mother to their two children. They met on a train platform after the wedding of best friends Barney, played by Neil Patrick Harris, and Robin, played by Cobie Smulders.
Throughout the series, the older Ted -- voiced by Bob Saget -- has been explaining to his teenage son and daughter how he actually met Tracy. Viewers learned she died six years prior to him beginning the story, which also involves married best friends Marshall, played by Jason Segal and Lilly, portrayed by Alyson Hannigan.
As it happens, Barney and Robin wind up getting divorced in three years and Ted’s kids figure out the real reason their father told them the story is to get their approval for him to renew his one-time relationship with "Aunt" Robin. The show ends with Ted showing up at Robin’s window carrying the blue French horn that he used to court her many years earlier.
FYI: the last part of the show featuring the kids, played by Lyndsy Fonseca and David Henrie, telling Ted to date Robin was shot nine years ago when HIMYM began.
Now both adults, Fonseca tells People, "It was so long ago, I don't really remember what I said."
