'Hugo,' 'The Artist' Lead Nominees for Critics' Choice Movie Awards

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(LOS ANGELES) -- Martin Scorsese's Hugo and the silent film The Artist each earned a leading 11 nominations Tuesday for the 2012 Critics' Choice Movie Awards.  Both are contenders in the best picture category, which has 10 nominees in all.

Notable names who received acting nods include George Clooney for The Descendants, Leonardo DiCaprio for J. Edgar, Brad Pitt for Moneyball, and Meryl Streep for her portrayal as Margaret Thatcher film The Iron Lady.

The 17th annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards, presented by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, will air live from Hollywood Jan. 12 on VH1.
